3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

N 提前3:1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.

 提前3:2 作监督的,必须无可指责,只作一个妇人的丈夫,有节制,自守、端正,乐意接待远人,善于教导;

K 提前3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

N 提前3:2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

 提前3:3 不因酒滋事,不打人,只要温和,不争竞、不贪财;

K 提前3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

N 提前3:3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

K 提前3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

N 提前3:4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.

3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

N 提前3:5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)

3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

N 提前3:6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

3:7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

N 提前3:7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

 提前3:8 作执事的也是如此:必须端庄,不一口两舌,不好喝酒,不贪不义之财;

K 提前3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

N 提前3:8 Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.

3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

N 提前3:9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.

3:10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

N 提前3:10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

3:11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

N 提前3:11 In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

N 提前3:12 A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.

3:13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

N 提前3:13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

3:14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

N 提前3:14 Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that,

3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

N 提前3:15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

N 提前3:16 Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
