23:1 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.

N 路23:1 Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.

23:2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

N 路23:2 And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king."

23:3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

N 路23:3 So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied.

23:4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

N 路23:4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."

23:5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

N 路23:5 But they insisted, "He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here."

23:6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.

N 路23:6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.

23:7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

N 路23:7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

23:8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

N 路23:8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle.

23:9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

N 路23:9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

23:10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

N 路23:10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.

23:11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

N 路23:11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.

23:12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

N 路23:12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends--before this they had been enemies.

N 路23:13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people,

 路23:14 就对他们说:“你们解这人到我这里,说他是诱惑百姓的。看哪,我也曾将你们告他的事,在你们面前审问他,并没有查出他什么罪来;

K 路23:14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

N 路23:14 and said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.

23:15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

N 路23:15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.

23:16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

N 路23:16 Therefore, I will punish him and then release him."

23:17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

K 路23:18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

K 路23:20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.

N 路23:20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.

N 路23:21 But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"

23:22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

N 路23:22 For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him."
