22:6 If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young:

N 申22:6 If you come across a bird's nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young.

22:7 But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.

N 申22:7 You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.

22:8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.

N 申22:8 When you build a new house, make a parapet around your roof so that you may not bring the guilt of bloodshed on your house if someone falls from the roof.

22:9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.

N 申22:9 Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled.

22:10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

N 申22:10 Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.

22:11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

N 申22:11 Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

22:12 Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

N 申22:12 Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.

22:13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

N 申22:13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her

22:14 And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:

N 申22:14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,"

22:15 Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:

N 申22:15 then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate.

K 申22:16 And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;

N 申22:16 The girl's father will say to the elders, "I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her.

22:17 And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

N 申22:17 Now he has slandered her and said, 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.' But here is the proof of my daughter's virginity." Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town,

K 申22:18 And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;

N 申22:18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him.

22:19 And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

N 申22:19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.

22:20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:

N 申22:20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found,

22:21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

N 申22:21 she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.

22:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

N 申22:22 If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.

K 申22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

N 申22:23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,

22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

N 申22:24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death--the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you.

22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:

N 申22:25 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die.

22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

N 申22:26 Do nothing to the girl; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders his neighbor,

22:27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

N 申22:27 for the man found the girl out in the country, and though the betrothed girl screamed, there was no one to rescue her.

K 申22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

N 申22:28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered,

22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

N 申22:29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

22:30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.

N 申22:30 A man is not to marry his father's wife; he must not dishonor his father's bed.
