拿3:1 耶和华的话再次临到约拿，说：
拿3:1 And the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying,
拿3:2 “起来！到尼尼微大城去，向其中的居民宣告我所吩咐你的话。”
拿3:2 Up! go to Nineveh, that great town, and give it the word which I have given you.
拿3:3 约拿就动身，照耶和华的话往尼尼微去了，这尼尼微是一座极大的城（“是一座极大的城”或译：“在 神面前是一座大城”），要三天才能走完。
拿3:3 So Jonah got up and went to Nineveh as the Lord had said. Now Nineveh was a very great town, three days' journey from end to end.
拿3:4 约拿进城，走了一天，就宣告说：“再过四十天，尼尼微就要毁灭了。”
拿3:4 And Jonah first of all went a day's journey into the town, and crying out said, In forty days destruction will overtake Nineveh.
拿3:5 尼尼微人信了（“信了”或译：“信服”） 神，就宣告禁食，从大到小，都穿上麻衣。
拿3:5 And the people of Nineveh had belief in God; and a time was fixed for going without food, and they put on haircloth, from the greatest to the least.
拿3:6 这事传到尼尼微王那里，他就起来，离开宝座，脱去王袍，披上麻衣，坐在炉灰中。
拿3:6 And the word came to the king of Nineveh, and he got up from his seat of authority, and took off his robe, and covering himself with haircloth, took his seat in the dust.
拿3:7 他又传谕全尼尼微，说：“王和大臣有令：‘人、畜、牛、羊，都不准尝什么，不准吃，也不准喝。
拿3:7 And he had it given out in Nineveh, By the order of the king and his great men, no man or beast, herd or flock, is to have a taste of anything; let them have no food or water:
拿3:8 不论人畜，都要披上麻衣；各人要恳切呼求 神，悔改，离开恶行，摒弃手中的强暴。
拿3:8 And let man and beast be covered with haircloth, and let them make strong prayers to God: and let everyone be turned from his evil way and the violent acts of their hands.
拿3:9 或者 神回心转意，不发烈怒，使我们不致灭亡。’”
拿3:9 Who may say that God will not be turned, changing his purpose and turning away from his burning wrath, so that destruction may not overtake us?
拿3:10 神看见他们所作的，就是悔改离开恶行， 神就转意，不把所说的灾祸降在他们身上了。
拿3:10 And God saw what they did, how they were turned from their evil way; and God's purpose was changed as to the evil which he said he would do to them, and he did it not.
