撒上20:1 大卫从拉玛的拿约逃走，来见约拿单，说：“我作了什么？我有什么罪孽？我在你父亲面前犯了什么罪，他竟寻索我的性命呢？”
撒上20:1 And David went in flight from Naioth in Ramah and came to Jonathan and said, What have I done? What is my crime and my sin against your father that he is attempting to take my life?
撒上20:2 约拿单对他说：“绝对没有这事，你必不会死。我父亲作事，无论大小，没有不让我知道的，为什么这事他偏要隐瞒我呢？不会这样的。”
撒上20:2 And he said to him, Far be the thought: you will not be put to death: see, my father does nothing, great or small, without giving me word of it: would he keep this secret from me? It is not so.
撒上20:3 大卫再起誓说：“你父亲一定知道我在你眼中蒙恩，就心里想：‘不要让约拿单知道这事，免得他伤心。’可是，我指着永活的耶和华，又指着你的性命起誓，我离死只差一步。”
撒上20:3 But David took his oath again and said, Your father sees that I am dear to you; so he says to himself, Let Jonathan have no idea of this, for it will be a grief to him; but as the Lord is living, and as your soul is living, there is only a step between me and death.
撒上20:4 约拿单对大卫说：“你心里想要什么，我必为你作成。”
撒上20:4 Then Jonathan said to David, Whatever your desire is, I will do it for you.
撒上20:5 大卫就对约拿单说：“你看，明天是初一，我本该与王一同坐席。但是，求你容我去藏在田里，直到后天晚上。
撒上20:5 And David said to Jonathan, Tomorrow is the new moon, and I will not be seated with the king at his table: but let me go to a safe place in the country till the evening.
撒上20:6 如果你父亲不见我在座，你就说：‘大卫恳求我让他赶回他的本城伯利恒去，因为他全家在那里有献年祭的事。’
撒上20:6 And if your father takes note of the fact that I am away, say, David made a request to me for himself that he might go to Beth-lehem, to his town: for it is the time when his family make their offering year by year.
撒上20:7 如果你父亲这样说：‘好！’那么仆人就平安无事了；如果他大大发怒，你就知道，他决意要害我了。
撒上20:7 If he says, It is well, your servant will be at peace: but if he is angry, then it will be clear to you that he has an evil purpose in mind against me.
撒上20:8 求你以慈爱待仆人，因为你曾与仆人在耶和华面前立盟约。如果我有罪孽，你就亲手把我杀死，为什么要把我交给你父亲呢？”
撒上20:8 So, then, be kind to your servant; for you have been united with your servant in an agreement made before the Lord: but if there is any wrongdoing in me, put me to death yourself; why take me to your father?
撒上20:9 约拿单说：“绝对没有这事，如果我知道我父亲决意要害你，我会不告诉你吗？”
撒上20:9 And Jonathan said, Do not have such a thought: for if I saw that my father was designing evil against you, would I not give you word of it?
撒上20:10 大卫对约拿单说：“如果你父亲严厉地回答你，谁来告诉我呢？”
撒上20:10 Then David said to Jonathan, Who will give me word if your father gives you a rough answer?
撒上20:11 约拿单对大卫说：“你来，我们出到田里去吧！”他们二人就出到田里去了。
撒上20:11 And Jonathan said to David, Come, let us go out into the country. And the two of them went out together into the open country.
撒上20:12 约拿单对大卫说：“愿耶和华以色列的 神作证，明天或后天约在这个时候，我探出了我父亲的意思，如果他对你有好感，那时我会不派人来告诉你吗？
撒上20:12 And Jonathan said to David, May the Lord, the God of Israel, be witness; when I have had a chance of talking to my father, about this time tomorrow, if his feelings to David are good, will I not send and give you the news?
撒上20:13 假如我父亲有意要害你，我若是不告诉你，不让你走，不使你平平安安地离去，愿耶和华加倍惩罚我。愿耶和华与你同在，好像从前与我父亲同在一样。
撒上20:13 May the Lord's punishment be on Jonathan, if it is my father's pleasure to do you evil and I do not give you word of it and send you away so that you may go in peace: and may the Lord be with you, as he has been with my father.
撒上20:14 我活着的时候，求你以耶和华的慈爱待我，使我不致于死。
撒上20:14 And may you, while I am still living, O may you be kind to me, as the Lord is kind, and keep me from death!
撒上20:15 我死了以后，耶和华从地上一一剪除大卫的仇敌的时候，你也不可向我的家永远断绝你的慈爱。”
撒上20:15 And let not your mercy ever be cut off from my family, even when the Lord has sent destruction on all David's haters, cutting them off from the face of the earth.
撒上20:16 于是约拿单与大卫家立盟约，说：“愿耶和华藉大卫仇敌的手追讨违背盟约的罪。”
撒上20:16 And if it comes about that the name of Jonathan is cut off from the family of David, the Lord will make David responsible.
撒上20:17 约拿单由于爱大卫，就使大卫再起誓；他爱大卫如同爱自己的命。
撒上20:17 And Jonathan again took an oath to David, because of his love for him: for David was as dear to him as his very soul.
撒上20:18 约拿单对大卫说：“明天是初一，因为你的座位空着，人必注意到你不在。
撒上20:18 Then Jonathan said to him, Tomorrow is the new moon: and it will be seen that you are not present, for there will be no one in your seat.
撒上20:19 到后天，你要赶快下去，到你以前出事那天藏身的地方，在以色盘石旁边等候。
撒上20:19 And on the third day it will be specially noted, and you will go to the place where you took cover when the other business was in hand, waiting by the hill over there.
撒上20:20 我要向盘石旁边射三支箭，好像射箭靶一样。
撒上20:20 And on the third day I will send arrows from my bow against its side as if at a mark.
撒上20:21 然后，我要派一个仆人去，说：‘你去把箭找回来。’如果我对那仆人说：‘看哪！箭在你的后面，把箭拿回来。’你就可以回来，因为我指着永活的耶和华起誓，你必平安无事。
撒上20:21 And I will send my boy to have a look for the arrow. And if I say to him, See, the arrow is on this side of you; take it up! then you may come; for there is peace for you and no evil, by the living Lord.
撒上20:22 如果我对仆人说：‘看哪！箭在你的前面。’你就要离去，因为是耶和华打发你去的。
撒上20:22 But if I say to the boy, See, the arrow has gone past you: then go on your way, for the Lord has sent you away.
撒上20:23 至于你我之间所说的这事，有耶和华永远在你我之间作证。”
撒上20:23 As for what you and I were talking of, the Lord is between you and me for ever.
撒上20:24 于是大卫在田里藏起来。到了初一，王坐席吃饭。
撒上20:24 So David went to a secret place in the country: and when the new moon came, the king took his place at the feast.
撒上20:25 王照常坐在他的座位上，就是靠墙的座位，约拿单坐在对面，押尼珥坐在扫罗旁边，大卫的座位却空着。
撒上20:25 And the king took his seat, as at other times, by the wall: and Jonathan was in front, and Abner was seated by Saul's side, but there was no one in David's seat.
撒上20:26 那天扫罗没有说什么，因为他心里想：“这是恰巧的事，或许大卫沾染了不洁，还没有得到洁净。”
撒上20:26 But Saul said nothing that day, for his thought was, Something has taken place making him unclean; it is clear that he is not clean.
撒上20:27 次日，就是初二，大卫的座位仍是空着。于是扫罗问他的儿子约拿单：“为什么耶西的儿子昨天今天都没有来吃饭呢？”
撒上20:27 And on the day after the new moon, that is, the second day, there was still no one in David's seat: and Saul said to his son Jonathan, Why has the son of Jesse not come to the feast yesterday or today?
撒上20:28 约拿单回答扫罗：“大卫恳切地求我让他回伯利恒去。
撒上20:28 And answering Saul, Jonathan said, He made a request to me that he might go to Beth-lehem,
撒上20:29 他说：‘求你让我去，因为我们的家在城里有献祭的事，我哥哥吩咐我去。所以，我若是在你眼前蒙恩，求你让我离开，看看我的哥哥们。’因此，大卫没有来赴王的筵席。”
撒上20:29 Saying, Our family is making an offering in the town, and my brothers have given me orders to be there: so now, if I have grace in your eyes, let me go away and see my brothers. This is why he has not come to the king's table.
撒上20:30 于是扫罗向约拿单发怒，对他说：“你这邪僻悖逆妇人所生的，我岂不知道你喜悦耶西的儿子，自取羞辱，也羞辱生你的母亲吗？
撒上20:30 Then Saul was moved to wrath against Jonathan, and he said to him, You son of an evil and uncontrolled woman, have I not seen how you have given your love to the son of Jesse, to your shame and the shame of your mother?
撒上20:31 因为只要耶西的儿子还活在这世上，你和你的国就不能稳固。现在，你要派人去把他抓到我这里来，因为他是该死的。”
撒上20:31 For while the son of Jesse is living on the earth, your position is unsafe and your kingdom is in danger. So make him come here to me, for it is certainly right for him to be put to death.
撒上20:32 约拿单回答他父亲扫罗说：“为什么要把他处死呢？他作了什么事呢？”
撒上20:32 And Jonathan, answering his father Saul, said to him, Why is he to be put to death? What has he done?
撒上20:33 扫罗向着约拿单把枪掷过去，要刺杀他。约拿单就知道，他父亲已经决意要杀死大卫。
撒上20:33 And Saul, pointing his spear at him, made an attempt to give him a wound: from which it was clear to Jonathan that his father's purpose was to put David to death.
撒上20:34 约拿单怒气冲冲地从席间退去，初二这天，他没有吃饭；因为他父亲羞辱了大卫，他就为大卫担忧。
撒上20:34 So Jonathan got up from the table, burning with wrath, and took no part in the feast the second day of the month, being full of grief for David because his father had put shame on him.
撒上20:35 到了早晨，约拿单照着与大卫约定的时候，出到田里去，有一个小童与他在一起。
撒上20:35 Now in the morning, Jonathan went out into the fields at the time he had said to David, and he had a little boy with him.
撒上20:36 他对那童仆说：“你跑去，把我所射的箭找回来。”那童仆跑去的时候，约拿单就把箭射到他前面。
撒上20:36 And he said to the boy, Go and get the arrow I let loose from my bow. And while the boy was running, he sent an arrow past him.
撒上20:37 那童仆到了约拿单的箭射到的地方，约拿单就在那童仆的背后喊叫：“箭不是在你的前面吗？”
撒上20:37 And when the boy came to the place where the arrow was, Jonathan, crying out after the boy, said, Has it not gone past you?
撒上20:38 约拿单又在那童仆的背后喊叫：“赶快跑去！不要停留！”那童仆就把箭拾起来，回到他主人那里去。
撒上20:38 And Jonathan went on crying out after the boy, Be quick, do not keep waiting about, go quickly. And Jonathan's boy got the arrow and came back to his master.
撒上20:39 那童仆一点也不知道这是什么意思，只有约拿单和大卫知道。
撒上20:39 But the boy had no idea what was going on; only Jonathan and David had knowledge of it.
撒上20:40 约拿单把自己的武器交给他的童仆，对他说：“你带回城里去吧！”
撒上20:40 And Jonathan gave his bow and arrows to the boy, and said to him, Take these and go back to the town.
撒上20:41 那童仆一离去，大卫就从石堆的南边起来，脸伏于地，叩拜了三次。二人互相亲嘴，相对哭泣，大卫哭得更悲痛。
撒上20:41 And when the boy had gone, David came from his secret place by the hill, and falling to the earth went down on his face three times: and they gave one another a kiss, weeping together, till David's grief was the greater.
撒上20:42 约拿单对大卫说：“你平平安安走吧！我们二人曾指着耶和华的名起誓说：‘愿耶和华在你我之间，也在我的后裔和你的后裔之间作证，直到永远。’”大卫就起身离开，约拿单也回城里去了（“大卫就起身离开，约拿单也回城里去了。”在《马索拉抄本》为21:1）。
撒上20:42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, for we two have taken an oath, in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord will be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed for ever. Then David went away, and Jonathan went into the town.
